Secrets About Giving

17 January, 2010 (00:09) | Kids And Teens | By: Masami Sato

Here is the secret to get what one wants. It is just giving. The reasons for it are based on the well-known philosophical dictum “Which comes first, the chicken or the egg?” The egg, and the chicken that is born out of it, create the circle of life, and form the basis for a profound comparison for attaining and giving what one wants: the circle of joy. This brilliant concept is analyzed in the clear voice and lucid prose of Masami Sato, the author of the book named ONE.

As humans, many of us have longings for all kinds of things. And of course, theories of economics inform us that while requirements are unlimited, resources remain limited. This provokes us to think, the more the range of resources that we have, the more the longing that we will be able to fulfill. That is why we tend to defend our resources. We feel that dividing it between others or giving the resources away will reduce the amount we can retain to get what we ourselves want. This is the basic game of success and failure that is being acted out.

Could it be true, then?

And if the answer is “no” what then? What if it actually goes against the secret of getting more? What if the secret to earn more is simple – just by managing to give more?

A person can get a thing by the simple act of giving. In the same way that he can get eggs by breeding chicks. In the most simple way. Naturally. Spontaneously. And it is a fully satisfying joyful sensation.

First, let us start with a small comparison to explain things.

Chicken and Egg – The Cycle of Life

Many a philosopher has come out with this question from the beginning of time, “Which comes first, the chicken or the egg?”

There is a simple answer to this unending doubt. It is that the question is unimportant, since both chicks and eggs are here now. Nevertheless, if one wants a greater effect, one can choose to start somewhere.

Giving and Taking: the Ring of Joy

What happens, if we pose a different question? “Which comes first, giving or receiving?”

Again, for better results, we have to begin somewhere. Giving away things to others is definitely far simpler than attempting to get it first!

What happens if we are trying to get it first?

If we hope to have something, surely we would try to acquire it. And once we get it, we would cling on to it. This is surely natural – it makes sense rationally.

But the real results of ‘trying to get’ are often not abundance and real long-term rewards.

For example, desiring to see others joyful is not about finding the joy from them or managing them to become happy. It is about how much pleasure we can give them and share with them. Period.

So how do we begin to get what we desire?

By starting from the reverse end – by giving generously!

When we start giving before we even have what we hope to get – that which we dream of – we are sending out a powerful message to ourselves which tells us, ‘there is enough, and more will come.’ It allows us to sense the joy today – the joy of giving.

All we need to do is give out the love in ample measures to others. It just returns to us. Giving love is the only way to be fully loved. When we acknowledge the greatness of others’ achievements, and their great qualities, again, that recognition comes back to us. They recognize us, because we are ready to recognize them.

In much the same manner, if we want to have enough of everything in our lives physically, financially, and emotionally, we must share these things in ample measure with others.

Some people may choose to give materially by giving their time. Others would choose to give financially by giving their wealth. Those who give much more (like time, wealth, kindness, affection, principles etc.) have more of all these because it is the balance. And balance is the law of nature.

Just remember the rule of the game

Important rule: never give anything expecting a return.

When we have the anticipation that giving involves ‘getting’ something back, we become unhappy when we do not see the thing returning to us fast. We may even feel unhappy towards the one who gets the gift. And having a negative feeling for someone is definitely not a right state of affairs! So we can know the real pleasure of giving when we are doing it with the awareness that we are actually doing it for ourselves – we are doing it for our own pleasure!

Losing to win, giving to get..

In the beginning it may look as if we are losing. However, at some stage we recognize that taking things without giving is not an acceptable life pattern. And we have been aware of it all throughout. That is why tithing has been a normal part of the lives of many people who were leaders. And they did not do it with any fanfare so it was not done to gain popularity. It was done because it was a way of life.

Just take a look around. ‘Simple’ forms of life on the earth do it routinely. The bumblebees fertilize the flowers in return for the honey they take from them and ensure that the flowers bloom profusely. Habitually. That is the rule. They do not do it consciously. That is why they maintain nature’s balance, without even trying.

Giving is just being who we are, it is just like having; not greater or lesser. No difficulty, no conditions attached, just releasing oneself.

The real secret of getting more can be summarised in two steps: Give first, and do not expect anything in return.

When we let go and give open-handedly, what we require would come to us. On its own.

Crafting Ideas for Kids – Keep it Simple

30 June, 2009 (00:04) | Kids And Teens | By: Ethan O. Tanner

Kids love to do craft projects, there is no doubt about it. But I think children, especially younger children like to have their projects less structured. A good strategy is to keep it simple and fun. I totally think this is true because they can be more creative and have more fun that way.

Do not understand me wrongly, I arrive at craftiness thoughts for my youngsters and we enjoy many hours of fun with them, only she appears to experience more enjoyment making her personal craftiness thoughts. It’s beneficial to allow the imaginative juices flow in the youth minds.

A few years back I went to our local good will store and bought a ton of craft supplies for very little money. I bought beads, leather, pipe cleaners, glitter, stickers, feathers, yarn, lace, buttons, and just a ton of crafty type stuff. I put it all in a big box with some glue and glue sticks and thus my daughters crafting box came into existence.

We have since added stickers, markers, cotton balls, sequins, and additional items we come upon. I purchased a large tablet of thick paper and therefore her “scrapbook” came into being. She enjoys getting out and making distinct pages of thoughts and creations. She cuts figures out of magazines and adds them to it also.

Occasionally she simply arrives at her own craftiness plans from the textiles rather than making her “scrapbooking” and she enjoys herself greatly. The single problem to her scrapbooking is occasionally she utilises more glue and we must wait for it to dry out prior to turning the page and progress to her succeeding creative activity.

Therefore do not always think structure when it comes to craft ideas for younger children. You and they’ll probably have a good deal more fun if you allow their imagination run the project. After all it is their creation so there’s no wrong or right way to do it. Children are less likely to become frustrated if they can’t make their creations appear just like they are suppose to as well.

How Children’s Bedroom Furniture Can Cause Allergies

6 June, 2009 (00:04) | Kids And Teens | By: Felicity River

If your child has allergies there are plenty of choices in bedding available to help. Some easy steps and shopping around can prevent allergic reactions in children due to their bedding or bedroom furniture harboring dust mites. I know it’s yucky to think about but it’s the feces of those mites that cause the allergies.

You can start by buying a case for your box springs. Made from vinyl, they don’t support dust mites plus they’re easy to clean and waterproof. Any reputable children’s furniture retailer will have a variety of hypoallergenic products available.

Next, a mattress cover that encases the entire mattress. Before selecting a cover, measure your child’s mattress (width, length and especially depth) to ensure you purchase the correct size.

Preventing allergies also means replacing pillows at least every two years. Get a certified hypoallergenic pillow because their fabric is sewn so tightly it can inhibit mites growth. Try synthetic down because it also keeps mold and bacteria down.

Regardless of what brand you buy make sure it’s got a mark of certification against allergies. They stop allergens but are also made without chemicals that can cause reactions. Remember it goes for all bedding including sheets, duvets, and pillows

Wash the bedding in high temp water and dryer. Every 3 months or so, thoroughly clean the mattress and box spring.

Changing the lines once or twice a week cuts down on the dust mite growth. At the same time you wash them, vacuum the mattress and shake out the blankets and pillows.

A couple other tips for helping your child’s bed stay allergen free; when you make the bed, shake out all the bedding and fold back the blankets. This helps to stop humidity from building, which dust mites thrive in. Also be sure to keep headboards and bedside tables dust free.

When you vacuum your child’s room, wait 2 hours before replacing the bedding. Dust settles after vacuuming somewhere in that time, and you don’t want it settling on a fresh bed.

With a few changes, a child’s bed can be a much more comfortable place at night, relatively free of allergy symptoms. This will help yourself as a parent rest better too.

Give your beloved dog a right dog bed to sleep

28 January, 2009 (05:22) | Kids And Teens | By: Todd Martin

You have always treated your dog as your family member, one that gives eternal love and dedication. As expected, you would like to care for him well, and one way to demonstrate him you value his faithfulness is by buying him the wonderful dog bed. Dogs sleep over half of their lifetime. With sleep being such an essential part of their life, it is reasonable that you, as the owner, would like to make that sleep as comfortable as possible. A dog bed will do just that for your much-loved pet. There are a few tips to follow when shopping to take care that you choose just the proper dog bed:

Consider the size of your dog. Dogs enjoy the feeling of being cuddled, so it is important to choose a bed that will envelop them. Pet beds frequently have raised sidewalls or curved designs for this purpose. Since beds come in many varied sizes, it will be an easy matter to match one with your dog’s needs. Larger dogs also weigh more than smaller dogs, and some beds may just not be the right choice if they stand the danger of collapsing under the larger dog’s bulk.

Consider the age of your dog. Puppies and adolescent dogs have a great deal of energy and vigor so will be able to maneuver raised beds easily. Older dogs may be arthritic and find it more difficult to climb up and into a bed. Fortunately, dog beds are designed in many fashions, and cushioned beds that lie directly on the floor will be quite comfortable. For the older pet, orthopedic beds are available as well to soothe the aching joints that commonly afflict dogs of advanced age.

Consider the space in your home. A large number dog beds come in lots of different styles, with some taking up more room than others. Exclusive dog beds may be fashioned as actual beds with headboards and cushions, supported by legs or on a platform. They can measure over 25 inches long and 18 inches wide for standard size up to 50 inches long and 40 inches wide for extra large sizes.

Consider your budget for a dog bed. To meet the needs of all customers, dog beds also come in a wide range of prices. While you may wish that you were able to purchase a designer wrought iron bed frame and cushion for your canine, a price tag of over $150.00 may prohibit you from carrying through with the purchase.

Keep in mind that your much-loved pooch will not be concerned about how much you spent on the dog bed like Antique White Iron Dog Bed, or how long you shopped to find the ideal one. You will be satisfied knowing that your pet will sense that you love him enough to make sure his comfort and good sleeping habits.

Make his eyes bug out with Faviana Prom Dresses

28 January, 2009 (04:35) | Kids And Teens | By: Hannah Taylor

Of course you want to go to prom in style, and to look your best with designers like Faviana. Prom dresses have really hit home this year with some stunning styles. I’m actually thinking of buying one for myself – even though it’s been years since my prom, these dresses are gorgeous, and I adore them.

All the parts of your dress should come together to make it beautiful. Remember the following:

Neck and Neckline of the dress – when you look at the dresses, imagine what they would feel like when you wear them. Do low necklines that highlight cleavage excite you or scare you? Do you want to highlight your bust or hide it away? Maybe your face is beautiful and you want the attention there… hmm…

The waist area – If you’re like me, you don’t want dresses that hug your stomach, butt, and hips, but some girls have no problem wearing that kind of dress. Just like I know how important it is to be comfortable in a dress, and to be able to sit down and stand up without feeling cramped or crimped, I take that into account when I look at dresses, especially for important events like prom.

Skirt. Long or short, part of a single one piece dress or separate, the skirt can also totally change your look. Taller girls will either want long skirts to make them look long, slim and flowing, but then again, shorter girls may need to make themselves look longer as well. If you want flirtatious or sexy, maybe short is the way to go. Just don’t make your skirt into booty shorts and you’ll be ok.

The length of the dress… The length can either favor you or hurt you, depending on whether you’re tall or short. Girls that are tall or very tall may or may not want a floor length dress, because they may appear too tall. Conversely, shorter girls typically will favor long dresses because it gives the appearance that they’re taller and longer.

Shoulders and straps – whether you want to cover your shoulders or not, you can always choose a shawl or light scarf to cover up, so don’t be afraid of thin strap or strapless dresses. The good thing is that you can always take off or put on a shawl or scarf. On the other hand, if you want to flaunt your upper body, then choose the shoulder type that works best for you.

The back of the dress… Most dresses will have a full or scooped back, but some of the new styles have a wrapped back or none at all. Depending on how daring you feel and if you want to emphasize your back, you can go various ways. Typically, low backs or no backs are only for the most adventurous girls, but again, go with what suits you best.

Color. Just by changing the color, your Faviana prom dress can go from subtle to shimmery, from laid back to loud, from good to bad or vice versa. Make sure the color or colors you pick work well with your own skin coloring. Be the complete package.

Think about all the parts that go into a dress, and when you find the right one, you’ll know it. A Faviana prom dress will give you the best chance to feel good, look good, and have confidence this year at prom 2009!

Dog harnesses are now suggested by veterinarians

28 January, 2009 (01:18) | Kids And Teens | By: Todd Martin

Nowadays practically all veterinarians are suggesting that dogs wear harnesses as a replacement for collars. Harnesses are superior for nearly all dogs; they’re painless to dog’s neck and back. Harnesses come in a large number of styles, there is one for each dog, whether your dog is an escape artist, a puller, a chaser, or has medical problems. Not all the harnesses that are available are fine for every dog, except there is a suitable harness for all the dogs.

To buy a suitable dog harness for your dog you must first measure him/her accurately. Manufacturers don’t make dog gear by breed or weight – they use measurements. Girth is the most essential number. Take a tape measure and wrap it all the way around your dog’s chest, just at the rear her front legs. If she’ll let you – leave it there for a moment to make sure she’s not “panting” out her ribs and snug it up if you feel it slacken. You must be able to get a finger or two between the tape measure and your dog, but that’s all. If she wiggles too much, just come back a couple more times and try it another time.

If your dog has a particularly sensitive neck or issues with a “collapsing trachea,” as many small dogs are prone to, look for a “Step-In Harness.” These are very easy on both you and your dog. If your dog is an “escape artist,” hunching her shoulders and wiggling back, look for a harness with hook-and-loop closures at the neck and girth. These harnesses look like jackets and should fit closely, without much room for adjustment, or escape. If your dog tends to pull you down the street – try a harness with the leash ring at the front of the chest. These seem to work magically, drawing your dog into you whenever he starts pulling away.

A particularly popular harness is styled almost like a human-wear dickey, with chest coverage that distributes any pressure from the leash across the dog’s chest, instead of concentrating it at the neck. These typically slip over dog’s head, one paw goes through an “armhole” and the strap is brought up under the tummy and clasped. Most feature mesh fabric and sporty styling.

There are dozens of variations and unique styles of dog harness like Crystal Love Heart Harness Vest. Materials range from leather, to cotton, to polyester. There is one to suit every dog and situation. Look for a store, locally or online, with a wide selection from many different manufacturers. Don’t be shy about asking for recommendations.
